The best example I can give on a book that I know that fits my style of learning is the “A/B Grammatik” series on German grammar. Therefore, I prefer books that explain the structures of the language itself, on a sequential and non-interrupted way, at the same time providing artifacts that make the understanding of non-native speakers easier. I know many people manage good progress with these sort of books, but I personally get confused because I can’t visualize how these insights on grammar and vocabulary fit the language as a whole, or how can they be used on applications other than that chapter’s theme. and provide short grammar insights on what is required by those themes. I dislike it when authors divide chapters based on “content” like “introducing yourself”, “asking for directions”, etc.
However, I find it that most language-learning books do not fit my style of learning. I would like to do that by following a book. Based on my experience, I have concluded that the method of learning a new language that best fits my learning curve is a progressive study on the language's grammar, in a self-study sort of way. I am already proficient on two languages outside my native-tongue. I want to learn the Italian language, and am in need of recommendations on a grammar book that teaches Italian grammar as a foreign language.
